Gary obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biological Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1978. In 1983 he obtained his Lab Animal Technologist Certification through the American Association of Animal Science (AALAS). He held several officer positions in the Three Rivers Branch of AALAS and maintained career-long memberships in both the local and national levels of the organization.
He has worked in both academia and the Pharmaceutical industry for thirty-seven years. Six years at the University of Pittsburgh and thirty-one years at Pfizer Research and Development, Groton, Ct. where he retired in 2015. During his tenure in lab animal science, Gary continually worked on the planning, design, renovations, new construction and decommissioning of small and large lab animal vivarium, associated support areas and facility operations. He has been responsible for the oversight of over twenty-four facility renovations, three new construction projects and the decommissioning eight facilities.
He has worked in both non-GLP and GLP facilities where he ensured compliance with USDA and FDA regulations, as well as extensive experience in reviewing and editing site program reviews for AAALAC (Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care) International and internal IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee) reviews. He has extensive experience with writing, reviewing and instituting SOP’s in all aspects of laboratory animal care and facility/support area management, as well as extensive experience with Capital Asset procurement, tracking, disposition and resource management. Gary has authored and/or co-authored over ten publications and has numerous presentations to his credit.
